What is a Mink and Ragdoll ?
They are Not a new breed, colour or pattern. They can be traced back to the first ragdolls bred by Ann Baker and other IRCA Ragdoll breeders .
They are called Minks because of their coats, Their coats are smoother than the Traditional Ragdolls.
They have lush dark coats and exotic eyes.
Minks are born with their colour unlike the traditional which are born white.
The points on a Mink are much richer and darker. They come in all the same colours and patterns. They have Aqua eyes ( blue-green) sometimes blue. Minks Have all the same traits as a traditional Ragdoll they are, large, lovely, docile, floppy cats.
A Sepia ragdoll has considerably darker, plusher coats, Their eyes can be a rainbow of colours from blue to green ect.
so minks can be traced right back to the very beginning in the Raggedy Ann cattery, Josephine was a solid white Persian or angora and buckwheat a black Burmese type.
Genetics :
Traditional Ragdolls have two Copies of the Siamese colour point Gene (cs/cs), they have light bodies and dark points and blue eyes
Sepia Ragdolls Have Two Copies of the Burmese Point Gene (cb/cb) they have very little contrast between body and points,They have green or gold eyes.
Mink Ragdolls Have One Copy of the Siamese point Gene(cs) & one copy of the Burmese Point Gene (cb). They are colour in-between, medium contrast between body and points with aqua eyes.
